Bali – The 10th World Water Forum, scheduled for 18–25 May 2024, has reached its final preparation stage with assurance of the overall readiness for the organization of the largest international forum in the water sector. This message was conveyed during the Coordination Meeting of the Preparations for the 10th World Water Forum 2024 on Saturday (20/04/2024).
The meeting, chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) and Chairman of the National Organizing Committee of the 10th World Water Forum, Luhut B. Pandjaitan, was attended by officials including the Commander of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Agus Subiyanto, Head of the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia (Polri) Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Secretary General of the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry (PUPR) Mohammad Zainal Fatah, Acting Governor of Bali Province Sang Made Mahendra Jaya, Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati, Director General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Usman Kansong, as well as media professional Wishnutama Kusubandio, and representatives from ministries and relevant institutions.
Luhut said that the 10th World Water Forum serves as a platform to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the water sector at regional and global levels. He further elaborated that Indonesia would focus on the four expected results namely the establishment of a Center of Excellence for Climate and Water Resilience, the formation of working groups for Integrated Water Resources Management for Small Islands, the establishment of World Lakes Day, and a compendium of concrete projects. “The registration on the official website of the 10th World Water Forum has reached 1,062 participants, consisting of 387 national participants and 675 international participants from 88 countries,” he added.
Furthermore, the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) have ensured their commitment to take precautionary measures in securing a series of activities during the 10th World Water Forum. Head of Polri Listyo Sigit Prabowo said that his team had prepared the "Puri Agung 2024 Police Operation” security scheme and qualified personnel mobilization for the success of the event.
Meanwhile the Commander Agus Subiyanto said that TNI will carry out high-level security ahead of the arrival of the delegations. “TNI and Polri will work together with National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), State Intelligence Agency (BIN) and Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) to maintain cyber security during the 10th World Water Forum. We also have prepared evacuation schemes in anticipation of natural disasters,” he concluded. Director General of Information and Public Communication of Kominfo Usman Kansong, representing the Ministry of Communication and Information, explained that his party has opened the Media Registration from Tuesday (16/04/2024) until Saturday (11/05/2024). "So far, 69 foreign media, 89 national media and 18 ministry/institution media have registered," said Usman. He added that Indonesia, through Kominfo, will provide infrastructures to support the media in the form of radio frequency spectrum, 5G network and fiber optic distribution.
Secretary General of the Public Works and Housing Ministry (MPWH) Mohammad Zainal Fatah added, "The 10th World Water Forum serves as a platform to showcase Indonesia's excellence in the water sector, not just its economic capacities as emphasized at the G20 meeting. Furthermore, the 10th World Water Forum will deliver the Ministerial Declaration as a joint commitment to realizing global sustainable water management," added Zainal.
For the success of the 10th World Water Forum, Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) will attempt to mitigate weather changes during the event. "We will prepare a weather engineering scheme, so that the event will run smoothly," said Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati.
She additionally emphasized the importance of highlighting the role of Indonesian youth at the 10th World Water Forum. "At this Forum, the contribution of Indonesia's young generation is very important and it will be part of joint efforts in strengthening Indonesia's leadership and role at regional and global levels," concluded Dwikorita.
