Indonesia Showcases Its Achievements in Improving Access to Water and Sanitation at the 10th World Water Forum

Jakarta, May 12, 2024- Indonesia has introduced practices for sustainable drinking water supply and sanitation that can be adopted by the participating countries of the 10th World Water Forum. One of them is the practice of community-based drinking water and sanitation (Pamsimas) and community-based sanitation (Sanimas), which is managed by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (MPWH).

Director General Cipta Karya of the MPWH, Diana Kusumastuti, said the government has implemented the provision of community-based drinking water and sanitation (Pamsimas) and community-based sanitation (Sanimas) and has proven that it is capable of opening up access to clean water, especially in villages.

"Countries participating in the 10th World Water Forum can learn from Indonesia on how to manage and improve access to clean water and safe sanitation through government initiatives and community participation," she said in Jakarta (5/12/2024)

The Pamsimas program aims to improve access to sustainable drinking water and sanitation in communities through a community-based approach. The key performance indicators (KPI) of the Pamsimas program for the period 2008-2022 are: 25,289,980 people have access to water, 3,827,855 household connections and a capacity of 41,349.88 liters per second of drinking water supply systems (SPAM).

The Sanimas program aims to provide quality, feasible and sustainable waste and sanitation infrastructure and facilities and to improve the quality of basic infrastructure in both rural and urban areas.

The Sanimas KPI for the period 2015-2022 envisages that 207,630 people will have access to Sanimas, with 1,544,775 households (KK) with a total of 7513 villages among the beneficiaries.

The 10th World Water Forum will take place in Nusa Dua, Bali, from May 18 to 25, 2024, under the theme “Water for Shared Prosperity" and includes six sub-themes: Water Security and Prosperity, Water for People and Nature, Risk Reduction and Disaster Management, Governance, Water Cooperation and Diplomacy, Sustainable Water Financing, and Knowledge and Innovation.
