Indonesian Government Prepares Various Side Events at the 10th World Water Forum

Jakarta, May 8, 2024 - The Indonesian government will offer attractive side events and additional activities on art and cultural exhibitions at the 10th World Water Forum, which will be held in Nusa Dua, Bali, from May 18 to 25, 2024. It is expected that delegates from other countries and participants will be able to experience the atmosphere of Bali in addition to participating in the forum.

Deputy Chair of the Secretariat of the National Organizing Committee of the 10th World Water Forum and Special Advisor to the Minister of Public Works and Housing (MPWH) for Technology, Industry and the Environment, Endra S. Atmawidjaja said that the 10th World Water Forum, which will be held for the first time in Indonesia, involves many stakeholders. So the event will be carefully prepared, both covering the main forum and events outside the forum, such as the 10th World Water Forum Fair and Expo and various cultural arts.

“It is an honor for Indonesia to host the 10th World Water Forum. We hope that participants will not only attend the main forum but also experience the special atmosphere of Bali," Endra said in his statement (5/7/2024).

He further revealed that the government had prepared 280 sessions at the 10th World Water Forum, including 55 side events, as well as 10 special sessions. The series of events will open with the Balinese Water Purification Ceremony, which is one of Bali's traditional rituals with the concept of the Rahina Tumpek Uye activity and the Segara Kerthi Ceremony.

Head of Division V of the 10th World Water Forum Fair and Expo and Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno affirmed that the ministry is set to fully contribute to the success of the 10th World Water Forum with various supports, one of which is facilitating the ‘melukat’ procession and participating in the side events. Melukat is one of Balinese magical rituals which involves using water as a ritual cleanser. The aim is to cleanse both body and mind, to refresh the spirit and dissolve away any negative influences. This melukat procession will also be supported by the local government.

"Since the 10th World Water Forum will be occurring at the end of President Joko Widodo’s administration, we will prepare it as an event to remember. We will develop side events in several locations," said Sandiaga.

Moreover, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will also participate in Indonesia Pavilion by providing virtual reality (VR) contents, promoting the low carbon tour packages, supporting the Fair & Expo by providing ‘Wonderful Indonesia’ souvenirs and goodie bags, contents and activation of games called "Lokapala", as well as promoting selected and qualified MSMEs products through planograms.

The opening of the Fair and Expo will take place on May 20, 2024 at Nusa Dua Hall BNDCC. The Fair and Expo venues will be spread across the BNDCC grounds, the Baruna Disaster Shelter in Kuta and the Bali Collection in Nusa Dua.

During the last day, participants will be invited to a field trip to enjoy the beauty of Bali, including visits to the Water Museum in Tabanan, UNESCO World Heritage Site Jatiluwih, Lake Batur Kintamani, and Ubud Cultural Village. (Firda Puri/TR/Elvira Inda Sari)
