Badung, 24 Mei 2024 – Iffah Rachmi, coordinator of Youth Sanitation Concern, received the Kyoto World Water Grand Prize 2024, organised by the Japan Water Forum in cooperation with Kyoto City and the World Water Council. This award was presented at the closing ceremony of the 10th World Water Forum at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC), Nusa Dua, Bali, on Friday (5/24/2024).
Established in 2003, the Kyoto World Water Grand Prize is intended to recognize grassroots organisations that make significant contributions to solving water and sanitation problems in developing countries.
Iffah Rahmi, a specialist in water and sanitation hygiene (WASH) and youth development, founded the Youth Sanitation Concern (YSC) organisation in Lampung in 2018. Its aim is to tackle the challenges of COVID-19 by building local sanitation infrastructure and promoting hygiene practices, particularly in Lampung Province.
"This initiative is the first step for us to continue working towards making sanitation an integral part of people's lives," said Iffah upon receiving the award and the 2 million Japanese yen prize.
"This award fills me with pride and is also proof that the younger generation can help change habits in society. We need to put more trust in the younger generation," she added.
The closing ceremony marked the end of the 10th World Water Forum in Nusa Dua, Bali. As the host country of the 10th World Water Forum, Indonesia handed over the milestone of organising the 11th World Water Forum to Saudi Arabia.
The 10th World Water Forum is a series of events that began two years ago, starting with the National Stakeholder Forum and culminating in the 10th World Water Forum, which was held in Bali from May 18-25, 2024.
The pinnacle event in Bali was attended by 19,686 participants from 160 countries. The Expo and Trade Fair from May 20 to 24, 2024 counted 23,718 visitors, including participants. The total number of participants and visitors during the five days from May 20-24, 2024 amounted to approximately 64 thousand people.
