Jakarta, 15 May, 2024 – The Mangrove Forest Rehabilitation and Conservation Area of Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park (Tahura Ngurah Rai) in Denpasar, Bali, is ready for the visit and mangrove planting initiative of the delegates of the 10th World Water Forum, scheduled for May 20, 2024.
The Vice Chairman of the National Organizing Committee (NOC) of the 10th World Water Forum and Minister of Public Works and Housing (MPWH), Basuki Hadimuljono, said that regional infrastructure improvement measures, supported by massive greening, have been implemented to prepare eco-friendly Bali to host the 10th World Water Forum.
The establishment of the Tahura Mangrove Forest Reserve in Bali was inaugurated by Indonesian President Joko Widodo together with the inauguration of the Danu Kerthi Tamblang Dam in Buleleng District in early February 2023. “The Tahura mangrove area has been improved and we will also organize mangrove planting during the 10th World Water Forum," Basuki said in Jakarta (5/15/2024).
The MPWH has built a mangrove nursery and rearing facility consisting of three buildings, namely the production house area for planting seeds, the germination house area for developing seedlings until they become sprouts, and the open growth area for mangroves of 30-50 cm in height.
The preparatory work was carried out jointly and in parallel by the MPWH through the Bali Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (Balai Prasarana Permukiman Wilayah/BPPW) Directorate General Cipta Karya, the East Java-Bali National Road Implementation Center (Balai Besar Pelaksanaan Jalan Nasional/BBPJN) Directorate General of Highways (Ditjen Bina Marga) and the Bali Penida River Basin Center (Balai Wilayah Sungai/BWS) Directorate General of Water Resources.
The theme of the 10th World Water Forum is "Water for Shared Prosperity" and includes the following sub-themes: Water Security and Prosperity, Water for Humans and Nature, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Governance, Cooperation and Hydro- Diplomacy, Sustainable Water Financing, and Knowledge and Innovation.
The 244 sessions of the 10th World Water Forum are expected to produce tangible results in terms of mainstreaming Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) for small islands, the establishment of Center of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience and the launch of World Lakes Day.
