Jakarta – The 10th World Water Forum which will take place in Bali from 18 to 25 May 2024 will be part of a growing momentum at global level towards achieving equitable access to water and sanitation. This was stated by the President of the World Water Council Loïc Fauchon during his visit to Jakarta and Bali on 25-28 March 2024.

Loïc said that among the seven billion people in the world, as many as three to four billions of people still lack access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene. This shows that there is inequitable access and provision of rights to water and sanitation.

Therefore, he envisioned the 10th World Water Forum to produce several high-level commitments notably in terms of water financing and management as well as tangible solutions that tackle the challenges and benefit communities throughout the world.

“We want this forum to bring positive impacts. This means that after this forum, people who lack access to water can finally meet their basic needs of water, sanitation and hygiene, and also be able to mitigate water-related disasters," said Loïc in an exclusive interview with CNBC Indonesia in Jakarta, 25 March 2024.

The 10th World Water Forum will present three main processes including thematic, regional and political. In the thematic process, around 700 international and national organizations are involved in presenting solutions to thematic issues. Then, regional processes will cover the water challenges of various regions of the world, as well as political processes which will engage state leaders.

“We have a regional process that covers various regions of the world, considering that solutions for Latin America will differ from the solutions for Indonesia and other countries. We are also carrying out the political process through discussions with leaders at all levels, including heads of state, ministers, members of parliament, mayors and river basin authorities," said Loïc.

"We will also propose commitments and solutions based on their respective regions," he continued.

Furthermore, Loïc emphasized that to achieve the goal of water provision for all, we need to also promote prosperity and peace. “Access to clean water is one of our most basic human needs and rights that cannot be taken away," he said.

The visit of the President of the World Water Council, Loïc Fauchon, to Indonesia, accompanied by the Director of the Asia Pacific World Water Council and the 10th World Water Forum, Yoon-Jin Kim, aimed to see the latest progress of preparations for the 10th World Water Forum which will be held in less than two months.
