The 10th World Water Forum Opens Up Investment Opportunities Worth Trillions of Rupiah for Indonesia

Badung, May 6, 2024 – The 10th World Water Forum, which will be held in Bali from May 18 to 25, 2024, will certainly produce several important agreements for Indonesia, including bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the water sector worth trillions of rupiah.

This was stated by the Chair of Division VI: Registration, Website and Information System of the National Organizing Committee (NOC) of the 10th World Water Forum and Special Advisor on Water Resources Management at the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (MPWH) of the Republic of Indonesia, Firdaus Ali, in Badung, Bali, on Monday (6/5/2024).

“There are commitments that have been discussed, including several projects worth up to one trillion. The detailed information will be provided by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan," he said.

For this reason, Indonesia, as the host country, is not only determined to make the 10th World Water Forum event a success, but also to promote how the results of the Forun can be implemented by countries around the world at project level and in practice.

“This Forum is not just a ceremonial event. It is a meeting to discuss the realities on the ground, so that concrete steps are needed. For this reason, the President of the World Bank has also agreed to attend. The same applies to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB)," said Firdaus.

For information, business meetings with strategic partners will also take place at the 10th World Water Forum to discuss possible cooperation and investments in connection with the development of water infrastructure development.

Earlier, the Chair of the Secretariat of the 10th World Water Forum’s NOC and Secretary General of the MPWH of the Republic of Indonesia, Mohammad Zainal Fatah, announced that Indonesia will offer a number of strategic projects worth US$9.6 billion or IDR154 trillion. Several of these projects have been selected by the Ministry of National Planning and Development (PPN/Bappenas).

The theme of the 10th World Water Forum is "Water for Shared Prosperity", reflecting the commitment of countries around the world to find solutions to increase and manage sustainable water resources to address uncertain climate change.

The Forum will focus on four themes, namely water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and natural disaster mitigation.

Out of the total 244 sessions of the Forum, concrete results are expected in terms of mainstreaming Integrated Water Resources Management for Small Islands (IWRM), the establishment of a Centre of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience and the launch of the World Lakes Day.

Together with the World Water Council (WWC), Indonesia has also invited 43 ambassadors and four international organizations to participate.
