Jakarta, May 1, 2024 - The 10th World Water Forum, scheduled for 18–25 May 2024 in Nusa Dua Bali, has reached its final preparation stage with assurance of the overall readiness for the organization of the largest international forum in the water sector.
This message was conveyed by the Chairman of the National Organizing Committee (NOC) of the 10th World Water Forum, Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Republic of Indonesia, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, following the Closed-Door Meeting between the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo and several ministers at Bogor Presidential Palace earlier this week.
The 10th World Water Forum serves as a platform for global dialogue on water challenges. “The 10th World Water Forum is a significant gathering for global leaders and water experts, expected to be a productive platform to discuss global water sustainability,” he said.
He further emphasized that the 10th World Water Forum will bring opportunities for Indonesia's tourism sector. Therefore, the logistics, infrastructure, and security preparations must be ensured. “This forum will have an impact on the tourism sector. The Indonesian government therefore has collaborated with the Acting Governor of Bali, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) to deploy security measures and to ensure the success of the event,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian government has developed the Bali Declaration’s draft which embodies Indonesia’s objectives for the follow-up actions of the 10th World Water Forum. These objectives are the designation of World Lakes Day, the establishment of the Center of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience, the mainstreaming of Water Management for Small Islands, and the preparation of the Compendium of Concrete Deliverables and Actions.
Furthermore, Indonesia is set to prepare an online platform for the submission process of the list of projects, initiatives and collaborations managed by national, regional and international water stakeholders. This inclusive and voluntary enlisting of water projects will be accommodated in a Compendium of Concrete Deliverables and Actions.
Chairman of the Secretariat of the NOC of the 10th World Water Forum and Special Advisor to the Minister of Public Works and Housing (MPWH) Mohammad Zainal Fatah affirmed that the draft of this ministerial-level declaration has been finalized and is ready to be presented at the 10th World Water Forum.
He further noted that the Bali Declaration’s draft already went through assessment by relevant parties, including the World Water Council, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The Indonesian government and the World Water Council (WWC) have prepared a series of events leading up to the 10th World Water Forum. The biggest event in the water sector will feature discussions on policies and strategies in water resources management involving three interconnected processes namely political, thematic process and regional process. The synergy between these processes is necessary to achieve the goal of water for shared prosperity.
