Waste4Change and ecoBali Successfully Managed 40,000 kg of Waste at the 10th World Water Forum

Jakarta, June 5, 2024 - Indonesia-based companies Waste4Change and ecoBali Recycling, in collaboration with the Indonesian Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering Alumni (Ikatan Alumni Teknik Penyehatan dan Teknik Lingkungan Indonesia/IATPI), Eco Tourism Bali and the Bali Tourism Board, successfully carried out the responsible disposal of a total of 39,031 kilograms of waste after the 10th World Water Forum event, which took place at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) from 18 to 25 May 2024.

The Event Waste Management initiative was also supported by the Indonesian companies Chandra Asri Pacific and Barito Pacific as well as the Finnish startup River Recycle, which promotes a circular economy by cleaning rivers and recycling plastics.

The various events and activities that took place at the Expo site at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center generated almost 40,000 kilograms of waste, with organic waste being the largest type of waste.

Five types of waste were managed, starting with residual waste weighing 5,997 kilograms, which  was then processed using RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) technology.

Secondly, plastic waste weighing 1,905 kg, which was further processed in the recycling industry.

The third type was paper waste weighing 2,766 kg, which was also processed by the recycling industry.

Fourthly, organic waste weighing 14,707 kg, which was processed by municipal composting and the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) method.

Fifthly, metal waste, which accounted for the smallest amount of waste during the event at 86 kg. This metal waste was disposed of via the recycling industry.

Non-valuable residues or waste were disposed of using RDF technology to limit the impact of waste on landfill.

This waste management initiative was a good step towards standardizing the management of #GoodEvents (#AcaraBaik) and underlined the importance of the sustainability approach.

The Director of Waste4Change, Mohamad Bijaksana Junerosano, welcomed the implementation of the waste management agenda. He said that cooperative and responsible waste management is key to efforts to protect water resources.

"We hope that this form of cooperative and responsible waste management can be an example for the organization of other events," he said.
