10th World Water Forum State Dinner Held in Ceremonious Fashion

 Badung, 19 May 2024 – The evening banquet for guests of state as part of the 10th World Water Forum was warm and ceremonious. President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko “Jokowi” Widodo received his guests to a welcoming dinner at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park on Sunday, 19 May 2024.

President Jokowi arrived at GWK cultural park at 6.53 p.m. Indonesian Central Time (GMT+8), accompanied by the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency Sandiaga Salahudin Uno, and Acting Bali Governor Sang Made Mahendra Jaya.

At 7.03 p.m., President of the World Water Council (WWC) Loïc Fauchon arrived, becoming the first to do so. Dressed in a maroon Balinese woven endek shirt and black trousers, Fauchon was greeted by President Jokowi gr. After a brief conversation, Fauchon proceeded to the reception place inside the GWK cultural park area.

At around 7.07 p.m., Papua New Guinea's Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso arrived, dressed in a brown Kalimantan sintang ikat-woven shirt and black trousers.


At 7:10 p.m., Dutch special envoy Meike van Ginneken arrived, shortly followed by United Nations General Assembly (UN) President Dennis Francis, also wearing a brown patterned woven blouse.

Then, at 7:13 p.m., Barbara Pompili, a French special envoy, arrived wearing brown trousers, a white blouse, and a woven motif scarf. At 7:17 p.m., the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates, Suhael Muhamed Al Mazroui, arrived a few moments later, the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato Sri Haji Fadillah Bin Haji Yusof and his spouse arrived.

Former Hungarian President Janos Ader and his spouse arrived at 7:21 p.m., adorned in matching brown batik.

The Prime Minister of Tajikistan, Qohir Rasulzoda, arrived at 7:22 p.m., President Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka arrived at 7:25 p.m., and President Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere of Fiji appeared shortly after, donning a Sintang shirt crafted from yellow and brown woven fabric.

President Jokowi subsequently welcomed the arrival of Puan Maharani, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Indonesia, at 7:30 p.m. Puan Maharani was dressed in a white shirt paired with a brown batik skirt.

After all the guests from the 10th World Water Forum had entered the banquet area, President Jokowi proceeded to enter and delivered a welcome speech. The Head of State hoped that the visitors would enjoy the customary Indonesian feast and shows that had been arranged.

“Thank you for your participation. I hope that the spirit of this evening can bring us to work together to share access to clean water and sanitation for everyone,” said Joko Widodo.

The event, attended by 2,300 guests, including 500 VVIP guests, was complemented by traditional Indonesian music and dancing. (TR/Elvira Inda Sari/SC/PR)
