Indonesia has once again been entrusted as the host of an international event. From May 18th to May 25th, 2024. The 10th World Water Forum will be held in Bali, under the main theme "Water for Shared Prosperity".
In preparation for the 10th World Water Forum, Indonesian Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment Affairs (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan held a briefing meeting on March 4th, 2024, inviting 43 Ambassadors and 4 International Organizations.
Minister Luhut explained that water is not only essential for human life but also for all life on Earth. The increasing environmental degradation threatens water resources availability and sustainability across the globe.
Hence, the Indonesian government invites all parties to actively participate in the 10th World Water Forum. Minister Luhut emphasized the importance of innovation and tangible contributions in realizing a sustainable water future.
"The 10th World Water Forum will be a significant water forum. The Indonesian government has been preparing for this forum for almost a year. Various necessities such as accommodations for participants are arranged to support the organization of the event," Minister Luhut said.
Ministerial Declaration of 10th WWF
The World Water Forum will be a great opportunity to discuss various issues related to global water management policies. Declarations by the Ministers regarding water, climate, food, energy, and health discussions will also be presented at this forum.
The World Water Forum in Indonesia is not just about producing document or declarations. Indonesia hopes this international forum can address global water challenges and create equitable access to clean water in every country.
The Organization of the 10th World Water Forum consists of three components: the thematic process, the regional process, and the political process. The importance of the political process was specifically emphasized in the meeting agenda with the Minister.
The political process is necessary to integrate the results of scientific discussions into policies that can be implemented within society. Therefore, Indonesia invites national leaders and relevant officials to discuss water issues together.
4 Discussion Focuses
The 10th World Water Forum will focus on four main areas: water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and mitigation of natural disaster.
A total of 244 sessions at the forum are expected to yield concrete results: mainstreaming integrated water management for small islands; establishment of centers of excellence for water and climate resilience; water-related project; and the designation of World Lake Day.
The Indonesian government targets an attendance of approximately 30,000-50,000 participants from various countries at the 10th World Water Forum. It was conveyed in the meeting agenda that Ambassadors play a crucial role in promoting the event to encourage more people to participate and contribute to this forum.
